    Challenges in Current BMS : Conventional Building Management Systems are focused towards monitoring various systems status and few of the analogue value parameters. The purpose is to monitor these points and create a database for history. This database history would be used in future to generate reports. It is also used for capturing a bunch of system Alarms. The BMS Operator spends a lot of time in locating & solving alarms rather than preventing them. Controlling the system more efficiently and taking well informed decisions from the Live data is not a common requirement in conventional BMS.
    Conventional BMS systems use lot of cables for communication and proprietary protocols. Systems are no more interoperable. Hence upgrading to newer system becomes tedious due to cables and networking infrastructure.
    One more important point but never given any importance by the end user is about the Commissioning – Integrity. The Project engineer does the system commissioning during Project Stages as per control philosophy approved at that time. During operations many changes so happen. Now to adapt real life onsite conditions it needs to be Re-commissioned. Unfortunately this re-commissioning is missing thing in most of sites as it becomes difficult with current setup.
    The BMS Systems installed right now are more Proprietary type in nature.  This clearly means that BMS systems implemented are not Service Neutral. The one who has installed only can take care of the system.  This automatically results into very Expensive AMC Costs. There is quite possibility of arm twisting with the end user for AMC.  Proprietary Dongles, Licensed Commissioning Tools, Software Applications , proprietary connectors make the life very difficult for the end user.
